Shot primarily in the Kagurazaka neighborhood of Tokyo, Japan, “Sorejya Taka” is a short film that was written, directed, shot and edited by me, and is currently in the post-production phase. The film follows a woman named Akiko who, after having an unexpected crisis, reaches out to her friends for human connection. As her attempts increasingly fail, she finds that all the solace she needs can be found within herself. We are aiming for a release sometime in mid-2019. The short features the beautiful single “I’m Not Afraid of the Dark” by Essie Jain.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES (Kagurazaka, Tokyo, Japan):

PREPRODUCTION STYLEFRAMES (by Maria Chou):

KAGURAZAKA: The majority of principal photography was shot in a neighborhood of Tokyo, Japan called Kagurazaka. It’s a beautiful mix of old and modern Japan, and we made it a primary goal to feature Kagurazaka as character unto itself. Below is a location & sunlight diagram, which we created in pre-production to help plan the shoot.
